Practitioner pilot

Test one defined contentious workflow.

A controlled evaluation with agreed participants, information boundaries and success criteria. Build evidence for an adoption decision.

A focused evaluation.

4–6 weeks

Normally a defined evaluation period, agreed for the proposed workflow.

1–3 practitioners

A small group of practising lawyers using or evaluating one matter or workflow.

An explicit outcome review

Stop, refine, extend or discuss paid deployment according to the evidence.

Agree what useful looks like.

  1. Choose the use case

Identify the documentary problem and the professional task. Suitable work may include matter familiarisation, chronology, issue analysis or contradictory evidence.

  2. Set the information boundary

Agree users, access, permitted material, provider configuration and data-processing requirements. Complete due diligence before introducing confidential information.

  3. Test the work

Evaluate source verification, matter understanding and professional review. Where relevant, test the complete Case Operator task, prerequisite, investigation and decision sequence.

  4. Measure and decide

Collect evidence on orientation time, source-checking effort, useful findings, workflow fit and repeat-use intention. Agree retention, deletion or handover when the pilot ends.

Test the Case Operator against a defined task.

Scope

Can the practitioner explain what has and has not been delegated?

Returned work

Can they inspect the result, its source context and its limitations?

Professional decision

Is it clear what remains an AI-assisted proposal and what has been accepted into professional analysis?

Controlled pilot safeguards

Professional verification remains part of the workflow.

Verify against sources

AI-assisted findings remain provisional until a practitioner checks the cited source material and adopts the conclusion professionally.

Cross-check broad Ask answers

Do not treat a single Ask LegalRAG response as an exhaustive procedural or evidential checklist. Cross-check Overview, Issues, Tasks and source documents.

Stop and escalate

Pause the affected workflow if source boundaries, provenance, confidentiality, export integrity or professional-state separation cannot be verified.

A controlled pilot is an evaluation, not independent solicitor approval, legal advice or an SRA endorsement.

Decide on evidence, not an assumed productivity gain.

The pilot should establish whether the workspace creates enough practical value to justify continued use. No fixed time saving or predetermined commercial outcome is promised.

Next step

Start with a practitioner walkthrough.

You do not need to select a pilot matter before seeing the product. Begin with a synthetic example focused on the contentious work your team handles.
